Louis Sharpe, who participated in AYO National Music Camp in 2013 and 2015, has been appointed Assistant Conductor for the Australian World Orchestra (AWO) season in September. The AWO comprises outstanding musicians from around the globe and over 80% are AYO Alumni. Louis will work with Alexander Briger AO and Stanley Dodds.
In September Jenna Breen will start her new position as 2nd Horn with the Seattle Symphony Orchestra. After participating in AYO National Music Camp in 2009, Jenna’s many achievements include playing with numerous Australian and international orchestras, receiving a Winston Churchill Fellowship and a permanent position with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra since 2014.
Kate Proctor recently accepted a position as Principal Piccolo with Orchestra Victoria. Since her time with AYO from 2011-2015, Kate has performed casually with the Queensland, Tasmanian and Australia Opera and Ballet Orchestras. In 2012, she won the Sydney Conservatorium and Sydney Youth Orchestra concerto competitions.
Rosie Turner has also recently accepted a position with Orchestra Victoria, as Associate Principal Trumpet. Rosie participated in numerous AYO programs from 2007-2009 and has performed with many national and international orchestras; these include the Australian Chamber Orchestra, the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra and the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra.
Gill Williams has been appointed as the new Solo-Hornistin of the Staatstheatre Kassel. Gill played with the AYO on the 2013 International Tour and remained to study at the Hochschule fur Musik in Hanover, Germany before securing a professional placement in 2015 as Solo Horn at Theatre Magdeburg.
