Matthew is a 19-year-old percussionist, timpanist, and drummer based in Perth. He is currently undertaking a Bachelor of Music performance in classical percussion at the University of Western Australia and has recently completed his first year of study under the tutelage of Dr. Paul Tanner.

Growing up in a noisy musical household in the suburbs, he decided to play percussion in order to be even louder and more rambunctious than his other three siblings. With the guidance of his parents and teacher Marcus Perozzi, he began learning through his primary school at the age of 10.

He graduated Perth Modern School in 2024 with various accolades, including the WA ATAR Music subject exhibition, Dettman Music Scholarship, and Instrumental Music Student Award. He is also the inaugural (2025) recipient of the Christine Morhall Scholarship in Music at UWA, following a season as principal percussion & timpani in the WA Wind Symphony.

Matthew is a versatile and multi-faceted player with a strong passion for almost any kind of music. His playing experience includes orchestras, wind orchestras, brass bands, musicals, jazz big bands, pop rock cover bands, and anything else he can find his way into in the future. He is delighted to be a part of AYO’s flagship orchestra in 2026.
