Stefan began playing the horn at the age of 12 after being persuaded against his first two choices of violin and bassoon. Despite an ambivalent start by 14 he knew he wanted to become a professional musician. Graduating from the Conservatorium High School, he began his tertiary studies upstairs at the Sydney Conservatorium under the Merewether horn fellowship but soon transferred to the University of Melbourne to continue his studies with Carla Blackwood where he won numerous scholarships and awards. He later joined the Australian National Academy of Music whilst finishing his honours studies and then moved back to Sydney in 2024 to join the Sydney Symphony Orchestra Fellowship program. Recently he has moved to London as a scholar of the Royal College of Music to undertake his Master of Music.
