Australian Youth Orchestra violinist Theonie Wang has been chosen to perform at Peninsula Summer Music Festival in 2026 in Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula in January.  

On 10 January, Theonie will perform Beethoven’s Kreutzer Sonata and Amy Beach’s Romance at St John’s Anglican Church in Flinders. The concert marks the beginning of an an-going collaboration between AYO and Peninsula Summer Music Festival, through which a young emerging artist is presented at a dedicated recital as part of the festival line up.

Theonie has performed with prominent Australian orchestras and has been a long-standing member of the Australian Youth Orchestra. This year Theonie toured Europe as Associate Concertmaster on the AYO International Tour and in 2024, Theonie was Concertmaster with the flagship Australian Youth Orchestra and was the recipient of the 2024 Richard Pollett Memorial Award. 

More of her recent highlights include performing in a masterclass for Maxim Vengerov, Guy Braunstien (former Concertmaster of the Berlin Philharmonic), performing alongside the Australian String Quartet and she was a featured young artist with ‘Ensemble Q’.   

Theonie has received several awards in recognition of her musical flair. She was the recipient of the Brisbane Club Award and the Ena Williams Award at the conclusion of her university studies. Theonie has continued her studies with Adam Chalabi at ANAM. Moreover, she was the recipient of the 2024 Richard Pollet Memorial Award.  

About the Peninsula Summer Music Festival

The Peninsula Summer Music Festival is held across multiple venues in Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula and features a range of contemporary and classical performances. The festival features worldwide sensations alongside local acts to share vibrant concerts.

Venues range from wineries with stunning views to quaint churches and the spectacular hot springs. PSMF includes in their program, a series of outreach and engagement events including free performances for families, events for residents in aged care and partnerships with local indigenous community centres.
