Inspiration. Achievement. Celebration. Magic.
– Emma Amery (violin/viola)
AYO offers inspiration to the next generation of the world’s musicians, allows participants to achieve heights of performance we could never dream of reaching by ourselves, celebrates the hard work and passion of young musicians, and creates an atmosphere of pure exhilaration onstage that spills out into the audience. It’s the AYO magic.
AYO co-founder Professor John Bishop OBE said of the first National Music Camp in 1948, “young people, who with their combined purpose and intent, together with the visionary leadership of their tutors, will discover a concept of living and thinking that will remain with them as an everlasting inspiration.”
In the 75 years since, the Australian Youth Orchestra has emerged globally at the forefront of orchestral training and provided talented young Australian musicians with life-changing experiences.
From our humble beginnings as the National Music Camp Association to the dynamic organisation of today, AYO has ignited the imagination of thousands. We believe that geographic or financial barriers should never stand in the way of a musician’s artistic and professional development.
As we reflect on our 75th anniversary, it is the generosity, enthusiasm, and spirit of our community that has underpinned our successes. When we look to the future, we aim to continue growing and creating transformative musical opportunities for the next generation of talented musicians.
We can do this with your support. You power our future; and our music sounds better with you.
