Welcome to Music in Me
It’s a new name, but our vision remains the same! The National Music Teacher Mentoring Program, is now officially known as Music in Me.

Music in Me is hosted by the Australian Youth Orchestra and supported by the Australian Government and private philanthropic support. With multiyear funding now secured for the program’s national coordination, the AYO is actively seeking new partnerships with all state education departments to co-fund local delivery in each region and grow the program’s impact.
Minister for the Arts, Tony Burke, said the Australian Government was proud to support programs like Music in Me. “The Music in Me program is part of the Government’s commitment in the National Cultural Policy, Revive, to support specialist in-school arts education programs. This means more young Australians will learn music, love music and make music.”
Bernie Heard, National Manager for the program says “Richard Gill established the program to enable access to quality music education not just for the few, but for every primary school child in Australia. His extraordinary legacy continues as Music in Me through the network of expert music teachers who carry on this work across the country. The power of the program is in its multiplying effect.”
In 2023 alone:
- over 14,000 children directly benefited from the program
- 157 teachers were mentored
- 76 leading music educators were engaged as mentors
- 88 schools participated in NSW, VIC, SA and WA.

Music in Me is currently available to primary schools in the NSW Department of Education and the Victorian Department of Education, in Western Australia through ASME WA, and in varied partnership or fee models for schools in other states and regions.
