Last month, 77 musicians flew from around Australia to take part in AYO July Season.

During their week in Melbourne these talented young orchestral players attended challenging rehearsals, tailored instrumental tutorials, and informative professional development sessions with leading experts of the orchestral world. This intensive training resulted in a phenomenal performance and two full-house concerts at Melbourne Recital Centre on 10 and 11 July.
The orchestra was joined by a diverse and star-studded line-up of Australian musicians. The program was compiled entirely of work by renowned composer Nigel Westlake, and included his collaboration with ARIA-nominated singer songwriter Lior, as well as a solo appearance by esteemed oboist Diana Doherty.
AYO musicians worked closely with these professionals and garnered a great deal of knowledge and inspiration from them over the course of the week. It was thanks to the vision of these three artists that such a unique program of all-Australian works could be brought together, and a credit to the country’s best young musicians that a concert featuring an unfamiliar selection of repertoire could be such a success.
