This April, 55 of Australia’s most talented young musicians are set to hit Geelong, Victoria, to participate in the AYO Young Symphonists program. Over eight days the musicians, aged 12 – 17, will work intensively on a variety of repertoire, presenting two concerts on Saturday 14 April at Bracebridge Wilson Theatre, Geelong Grammar School.
In 2012, the program combines symphonic instruments, encompassing works for full orchestra as well as string orchestra, chamber music, and wind, brass, and percussion ensembles.
Music Director Richard Mills is sure to inspire the participants with his musical knowledge and expertise, being one of Australia’s most sought after composers and music directors. He has pursued a diverse career as a composer, conductor and artistic director which has seen him working with almost all of the nation’s music organisations.
A highlight of the AYO Young Symphonists program is the overpowering enthusiasm and dedication of these young up-and-comers. For some, it will be the first opportunity they’ve had to join likeminded musicians and play in a full orchestra.
The inspiration they receive from this program will no doubt go a long way to helping them realise their dreams as professional musicians.
