During May, Momentum Ensemble had the great privilege of working with students from the Peninsula Specialist College in an exciting collaboration directed by music educationalist and composer Paul Rissmann and violinist Belinda McFarlane.
Utilising elements of improvisation, the AYO musicians and school students created their own music in response to Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition. Also drawing inspiration from indigenous culture and music led by renowned didgeridoo player William Barton, the project culminated in a unified performance, featuring both Julian Yu’s Pictures and new music created and performed by the students of Peninsula Specialist College at the Melbourne Recital Centre.
