In September 2019 Momentum Ensemble gave the first performance of a special creative collaboration commissioned by AYO with the support of the late Peter Weiss AO.
The work, Avem Asperitas, melds together sound and image crafted by two artists living on opposite sides of Australia. Over many months, and separated by many hundreds of kilometers, composer Lachlan Skipworth and photographer Greg Barrett explored the creative process that arises when faced with both a musical and visual blank canvas.
The premiere performance in Sydney, conducted by Daniel Carter, was successful in bringing to life the sounds, visuals and the emotions of the piece in one place, and was well received by an enthusiastic audience. A year later, AYO is thrilled to share this unique creation with our community online. Watch the video and explore the podcast, article and Q&A below to learn more about this exciting collaborative creation.
