About
Ethan Chiao, a 17-year-old cellist, is currently studying at The Victorian College of the Arts Secondary School under the guidance of Josephine Vains. He has participated in prestigious masterclasses with renowned cellists such as Ramon Jaffe and Edith Salzmann. Ethan has also achieved international recognition, winning 1st prize in both solo and chamber music at the Valsesia Musica competition and has been invited to perform a recital at Carnegie Hall. His accomplishments include a solo recital and two chamber music recitals with 3MBS, performing in both a piano trio and a string quartet. Ethan has won 1st prize in the Boroondara Eisteddfod’s 18 years and under category, as well as the open-age competition. Currently, he plays in a piano trio and a string sextet, which have won multiple awards, including the Music Society of Victoria’s chamber competition. In 2024, Ethan was a finalist in the MRC Baroque competition, the Preston Youth Concerto Competition, and Musica Viva’s Strike A Chord Competition with his piano trio.
