Jonathon Coco began his double bass lessons at the age of nine, learning from Earl Hunter.
He later studied at Melbourne University and the Australian National Academy of Music under Damien Eckersley’s guidance. Jonathon was appointed Associate Principal Double Bass Adelaide Symphony Orchestra in January 2017. Currently, Jonathon is on trial as Principal Double Bass with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra.
Jonathon is a passionate chamber musician, having performed alongside esteemed ensembles and musicians such as the Australian String Quartet, Tinalley Quartet, Anthony Marwood, and James Crabb. He has enjoyed performing several times at the annual Coriole Festival in McCarlen Vale and as a guest musician with the Queensland and Tasmanian Symphony Orchestras.
As a bass tutor Jonathon has given lessons at the Australian National Academy of Music (2022-2023) and at Australian Chamber Orchestra Academy (2018). He has mentored young musicians for the ASO & AYO Fellowship and been involved in many of ASO’s other educational activities.
