About
Sam Battock is a bassoonist from Brisbane, now based in Melbourne. She received a Bachelor of Music (Performance) from the Queensland Conservatorium of Music (QCGU) in 2022 with guidance from David Mitchell (QSO). In 2024 she relocated to Melbourne where she is currently completing a Master of Music (Orchestral Performance) studying under Lyndon Watts (OV).
Sam has had the opportunity to explore a variety of ballet and opera parts through playing in Orchestra Victoria, Ballet Theatre Queensland (BTQ) and university productions. Recent highlights include playing in Victorian Opera’s Abduction with Orchestra Victoria and Prokofiev’s Cinderella with BTQ.
During her studies Sam has performed as Principal Bassoon and Principal Contrabassoon with the Conservatorium Symphony Orchestra (QCGU) and University of Melbourne Symphony Orchestra. Through participating in side-by-side projects at QCGU and UniMelb, she has played alongside members of the Australian String Quartet, Ensemble Q, Melbourne and Queensland Symphony Orchestras, and Orchestra Victoria.
Sam also enjoys chamber music performance and has participated in various chamber ensembles for almost 10 years. She recently played in Noosa Chamber Music’s first 2026 concert, exploring a program of mostly French music for wind quintet.
Away from the bassoon, Sam can be found reading or rollerskating.
