Conductors

The brave creative souls who stand in front of the orchestra! Conductors at AYO National Music Camp take 220 talented individuals and transform them into three orchestras that think and breathe as one, all within the space of two short weeks! This year the Bishop and Alexander Orchestras will be conducted by Christopher Seaman and Moritz Gnann, and the Gill Chamber Orchestra will be under the direction of violinist Sophie Rowell.

Artists in Residence

Every year we welcome the highest calibre performers to work alongside our AYO musicians. These artists play a vital role, appearing as soloists in AYO National Music Camp concerts, running workshops for participants and providing their artistic expertise and guidance. This year we look forward to meeting harpist Marshall McGuire, who will perform works by Debussy, and clarinettist Ashley William Smith, who will tackle Lachlan Skipworth’s Clarinet Concerto.

Tutors

Our tutors come from the finest musical institutions throughout Australia. Some teach at respected Universities and Conservatoriums and others hold positions with the country’s professional orchestras. Many of our AYO tutors are also alumni, who enjoy coming back to camp to provide the next generation of Australian musicians with the same expert guidance they received as young musicians.

Librarians

Introducing Molly Collier O’Boyle and Kinga Janiszewski, our two 2018 AYO National Music Camp Librarians! With so much sheet music in circulation at camp, it’s vital to have somebody to keep things organized.

Residential Coordinators

They’ll wake you up if you sleep through your alarm and they’ll make sure you get home safe after an evening rehearsal. These wonderful people are your Residential Coordinators, and they are vital to the running of National Music Camp. This year we welcome Jennifer Bird, Patrick Brearley, Annette Brown and Stephen Brown.

AYO Staff

The staff team works year-round to make sure AYO programs are the best they can be. The Artistic team takes care of selecting the best artists, tutors, and conductors to work alongside young musicians. They also choose all the wonderful music that our musicians play! Behind the scenes you will find the Finance, Development and Marketing staff, but at camp you’re most likely to run into our Operations team, Warren, Hannah and Nathan. This trio takes care of logistics – from your first audition to your accommodation at camp, to the shipping of instruments, music stands and scores.
